EUGENIO MERINO - Rescue Passport Honduras
Rescue Passports Mexico, 2020
Laser Engraved Thermal Blanket
11 x 7 cm
In "Rescue Passport", Eugenio Merino questions the role of western governments in welcoming immigrants and refugees. As well as forced displacement as a consequence of the globalized patriarchal capitalist economic system.
Merino uses the gold and metallic paper blankets with which the NGOs protect the refugees who risk their lives crossing borders. These thermal blankets are folded to the size of a passport and are later engraved with the coat of arms of the countries from which the migrants come, who are frequently deported across the southern border of the United States.
